Sunquake

I listened to a song by the French band Sunquake today, and I have nothing to say other than I'm very impressed by the quality or their recording, and the dynamic changes of the song.

They remind me a lot of bands like Between the Buried and Me, The Contortionist, or Mastodon. And that to me a a really good thing. Probably closer to The Contortionist, but I feel those band's vibes in there.

Please take a moment to listen to this band's latest single, and keep on the lookout for new things from them coming soon!

SLEEPLESS

SLEEPLESS is a band from Aberdeen, Scotland and though they haven't played a show yet, they've got the sound of a band that's been around for a while. The track "The Enemy" reminded me of STRUCTURES first album "All of the Above" and The Ghost Inside.

If you're a fan of either band, you have to check out SLEEPLESS!

Diary of Snow

I first listened to this guy Jordan LaFaver, and his project Diary of Snow a couple years ago, and to be honest I wasn't a huge fan. It was okay, but it didn't do a whole lot for me. Probably because I was in some phase where I hated anything without breakdowns and a frustrated daddy's girl screaming about his problems half-assedly.

It had been a while, I recognized the name Diary of Snow as I was sorting through the reviews and I said "I should really give him another chance, I was a giant dick." I am very sorry Jordan, but I really like what you've done here.

It is not often I like a pop sounding song outside of rock bands, this is that exception.

And I'm glad I did, I'm listening to the track "Hunter" a track that Jordan seemed to work really hard on, because not only does he use a recording from a radio interview he did, the song is SPONSORED BY MT-FUCKING-V.

And if that isn't sweet, I don't know what is and I should just go back to bed.

Static Signal

I picked up on these guys really fast for some reason, I felt pulled into the track "Hold on" by Static Signal, its got a swaying, rhythmic sound that I'm really enjoying tonight.

If you're a fan of 90's rock like Pear Jam, or newer rock like 3 Days Grace, please listen for your own benefit.

This 5-piece from Illinois has got shit nailed down, man its just a good time listening to them. Really. Seriously. For real, I downloaded their songs after listening to them for a bit, and I strongly suggest that you listen and do the same.

Electric Theatre

Ending my weekend listening to the Bristol, UK based band Electric Theatre was a good choice, it really was. This is the first band I have reviewed that is outside of the United States as well!

They have a sound that can be described as a "hardcore Foo-Fighters" but way less whiny sounding haha.
I listened to their song "Special Features" a few times (and then downloaded it)

I always listen to the music as I write these, it helps me get more of the feeling at the time on here, and honestly I'm just so focused on listening to this song over and over that I can't concentrate in this, so listen of you won't be late for anything because time passed me by listening to them. They will be releasing an album sure, so follow up on that on their accounts!

Thanks for the song guys!

Cunt Cuntly Interview

Joe DeSalvo from Dracut Massachusetts band Cunt Cuntly, and Scribe of Existance sat down and let me ask him questions for a bit!

Joe and I also plan on having a Skype interview sometime very soon which will be posted on here for you all to see!

What is your main goal right now?
Scribe of Existence. For anyone reading this SOE is a project me, my friend Dave, and Luke and Jake of Acrania are working on. Im soooo excited to show everyone what we got. The songs are more progressive, and are very influenced by Born of Osiris and Veil of Maya. But have that Deathcore kick also. With Luke on Vocals and Jake on drums it should be super killer!

What is your greatest accomplishment so far, and how would you be able to top that?
Mayhem fest 2012 probably. My old band won a battle of the bands run by Sumerian Records and got a spot to play Mayhem in 2012. We played right before Whitechapel and Upon A Burning Body. Being there before doors with all the bands just walking around was a new experience and very cool. I could top that in many ways, hopefully, Im hoping to play shows as CC soon like I said so lets see what happens in the future.

So you sit down to record, and you somehow manage to go to youtube or reddit or whatever, what are you watching or reading while procrastinating?
I frequent r/space and r/morbidreality whenever I'm on reddit. As far as Youtube goes it can be anything haha, I love watching shitty music videos from bands I don't like. There is a bunch of good documentaries on Youtube also.

What is your most memorable moment on stage or at one of your shows?
I've puked off the side of a stage before from being nervous in the early days when I started playing shows in my old band. That or once our keyboardists gear wasn't working, then someone came up to us after the show and told us how much he loved the keyboard elements in the songs.. I'm 95% sure he was serious.

What was the best show you have played so far?
Mayhem fest 2012 without a doubt. After that probably this show we played with All that Remains and Emmure. If you got the chance to go back in time and play ANY show, festival, or event, ever, what would it be? ANY show would be Wacken 2009 or 2011. But that's pretty unrealistic, I love shows like that and I want to go to a festival overseas next year. North America is cool and all but Europe has all the sick stuff. Other than that I wanted to try and open for Born of Osiris in 2011 with Veil of Maya, Carnifex, Structures, and Betraying the Martyrs at a local venue we frequented.

Describe the weirdest person you have met.
Other than the keyboard guy, probably ********

If you could change one thing about the music scene, what would it be and how would someone do it?
People need to keep the negativity to themselves! Its fine if you dislike a band but posting about it constantly is annoying. No one really cares if you hate Asking Alexandria, we get it. You can share your opinion without being an asshole. No need to make fun of people for their tastes either, its just ridiculous. I'm confident that there is no way possible to stop this from happening, people tend to focus on the negatives sadly.

What is the best and worst day job you've had?
Best day job was probably this car auction I used to work at. I got paid $20 an hour but it was only one day a week. I would never sleep before I would go in so I was always falling asleep on the job. I'm surprised I didn't get fired. Worst was this paint store I used to work in. Hated it. My boss was a jerk. I delivered pizzas in Nashua NH for 9 months and that was crazy. Saw a man get shot, another man hit by a car and nearly die in the road, another man beat his girlfriend for money to buy heroin. Crazy shit.

What's the weirdest thing you've eaten while you're locked away recording?
Bread dipped in Italian dressing, or port wine cheese with croutons. Ill eat anything if im hungry enough.
What foreign country do you want to go to the most?
The UK to hang with my SOE friends (Acrania). Other than that probably France or Australia.

If you could collaborate with any person, living or dead who would it be?
For newer bands without a doubt Born of Osiris or Thy Art Is Murder. People have compared some of my songs to them a few times so working with them would be a miracle. Older bands probably Slayer. I LOVE thrash metal and writing some fast blistering riffs with Kerry or Jeff (:/ rip) would be a dream come true. But that'll never happen haha.

Gravity Calls

From North Berger, New Jersey there is a band. A band that truly delivers a sound that instantly drives itself into your memory.

This is a band that you find yourself bobbing your head and tapping your feet along to, and then you go, what is this band?

They are Gravity Calls.

I listened to their song "Phantom Command" on their Soundcloud today, and I downloaded it just like you need to when you listen to it. The vocalist/guitarist Josh Daniels give me a Eddie Vedder vibe while the bassist and drummer Chris Mendez and Alphie Aguilar keep a strong and energetic rhythm.

"breath life out now, she’s spilling wastefully
afraid we won’t survive, but somehow she sleeps
We’ll miss so much of this sad, sad world
Never around cause she sleeps through everything"

Somewhere in Between

I was caught off guard by the jazzy feeling that punched me right in the face, and then a right hook by the metal breakdown into a proggy wonderland.

The name is spot on for the band, they are Somewhere in Between, a "plural" genre band from good 'ol Texas that seeps energy and emotion from their music.

Learn more about the band here:

The song "I Know" kept me on my toes the whole track because I did not know what was going to happen next, 100% serious about it, please give them a listen, and make sure to keep tabs on them!

Throne of Eden

Throne of Eden is something that I haven't heard for a long time style-wise.

It reminds me very much of the metalcore Avenged Sevenfold with the vocal traits of Deftones but with more bells and that creepy feeling you get from realizing the plot twist in a movie.

I invite you all to listen to their song "Tombstone Lullaby" and enjoy it as much as I did, not even kidding this brought back memories man haha.

The lyrics seem very thought out, and are incredibly delivered by this Jasper, Alabama band whom I wish the best of luck to.

Why do we regret our errors?
Our questions know the answers.
One day we'll sing where we lie.
Our tombstone lullaby

Aurelia

I want to show around this band that nobody knows of but you ABSOLUTELY SHOULD take the time to fall in love with their music just like I have.

They are Aurelia, and they hail from Windsor, Ontario,
follow them at their facebook, here.

"What comes out of Windsor? A silver lining?
That silver lining left a long time ago, and our silver lining now is that it might just come back one day.
No.
What comes out of Windsor is imperfect.
It's filth.
And grime.
And pain.
A shortness of breath from all the shit in the air.
And the overwhelming sensation everyone wants to get the fuck out of here.... well, we do at least.
That's where our music comes in.
We get out by letting all of you in.
We share just as much with our city as we do with the music we make."

Described as "sloppy hardcore" they really seem to have things nailed down when it comes to their sound.
No song will leave you thinking "was that the song I listened to before?"

Working hard all the time, currently they are looking for places to tour around Canada and the reasonable United States because they are releasing their 3rd(?) ep quite soon.

Take a listen, and share them around to your friends, and keep checking in for more bands, and more from Aurelia.
